Summary
It’s your job as Retail Manager to manage the hospitality and retail operations of our Des Moines store, including our Farm Market, on-the-farm events, and front of house operations for our Bakery/Café. In this role you will be expected to develop a successful business and promote the Wilson’s brand through best in class customer experience and sales of high quality, highly relevant products. You should be able to read situations quickly, act courageously, and seek solutions and results that create a high-performing work environment.
Responsibilities
Oversee hiring, training and professional development for all retail and hospitality staff; ensure that we are appropriately staffed at all times, and that key labor metrics are met.
Plan, coordinate, and execute all farm events, programming, and experiences.
Effectively manage the supply chain for retail and front of house operations.
Lead the sales and customer support teams by example, finding solutions to create and maintain a high level of customer focus.
Establish an outstanding customer experience and high quality standard for all on-farm events, programming, and experiences.
Oversee all front of house operations for our Bakery/Café to ensure quality of service.
Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of all Farm Market SKUs, and Bakery/Café offerings.
Manage merchandising, stocking, pricing and inventory management.
Control COGS, ensuring that the relevant targets are met.
Oversee the implementation, and optimization of standard operating procedures.
Provide effective management and oversight of your entire staff to ensure that our SOPs, service and productivity standards are consistently met.
Manage you-pick operations and ensure that the guest experience on our farm is a high quality experience.
Work effectively within cross functional teams to ensure that projects are completed on time and that company wide goals are met.
Ensure that the facilities, equipment, building and grounds are cleaned and maintained to the highest standards.
Grow and develop our farm experiences business, including but not limited to field trips, summer camps, corporate and private events, live entertainment, courses, catering, ticketed events, festivals, craft shows, and rentals.
Allocate time to study retail and hospitality industries; stay up to date on trends.
Support the marketing manager by making regular contributions to marketing the Farm Market, Bakery, and Farm Experiences, including but not limited to regular social media posting, in store marketing materials, data collection, online customer service and offline customer service.
Understand and comply with all federal, state, county and municipal regulations regarding health, safety and labor requirements.
Innovate, collect data, iterate; you and your team will be charged with experimenting with new retail and hospitality concepts, products, and services to ensure that our business is highly competitive in the local and regional market.

Qualifications
You have demonstrated leadership ability, interest in team management, with at least two years of experience in a customer-facing environment.
Proactive and independent, consistently looking for ways to take initiative.
Highly motivated, and able to learn and adapt quickly.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Honesty, trustworthiness, and integrity during adverse or challenging conditions.
Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
You are team oriented but also have a very high level of self-motivation.
Strong sense of ownership and entrepreneurial spirit.
Exceptional emotional intelligence and conflict management capability.
Strong supply chain management skills; able to manage perishable and non-perishable inventory effectively.
Ability to diplomatically manage multiple (and sometimes conflicting) commitments to customers, staff, operations, and business objectives.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Cross-industry experience is welcome — a retail background is not necessary.
You'll need to be flexible with your schedule, your work hours will be based on business needs. For the next few years, especially during our peak season, the workload will be significant.
